THE LOWDOWN

LORIENT

After finishing in mid-table last season, Lorient have badly struggled at the start of this season and begin the weekend’s round of fixtures sitting third-from-bottom and in the relegation playoff place. The home team have managed just two victories in their opening 12 matches so far this season but have remained entertaining to watch.

Those 12 matches have consisted of 36 goals with no team in the bottom-half scoring more than them and only four teams in the entire league managing more with 21 conceded – only Nantes have conceded more often. Their most recent outing saw them defeated by a goal to nil away to Clermont before the international break.

METZ

Following promotion, Laszlo Boloni’s Metz begin this weekend sitting firmly in the middle-of-the-table after a three-match unbeaten run of form before the two-week stoppage for internationals. They went into that break on the back of an impressive 3-1 defeat of Nantes a couple of weeks ago, following on from back-to-back draws.

It is an extremely congested and tight bottom-half of the Ligue 1 table with Lens in sixth on 16 points and Lorient in 16th on 11 points. Metz, in the middle of that, have collected 13 so far this season and will be wary of falling down towards the bottom three; which is where many expected them to finish ahead of the start of this season.

THE TEAM NEWS

LORIENT

Lorient have several injury concerns but none of them are fresh so they could name an unchanged eleven if they so choose as Metz come to Lorient.

PREDICTED XI (3-4-2-1): Mvogo; Mendy, Talbi, Toure; Mvuka, Abergel, Makengo, Yongwa; Faivre, Ponceau; Kroupi

METZ

Metz are missing a few key players, such as Aboubacar Lo and Oscar Estupinan, but they are able to name an unchanged side as they travel to Lorient.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Oukidja; Colin, Traore, Herelle, Udol; Camara, Jacques; Van Den Kerkhof, Jallow, Diallo; Elisor

UNAVAILABLE: Sabaly (Injured), Estupinan (Injured), Lo (Injured), Maiga (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

This is a game between two sides that are very much expected to be down in the Ligue 1 relegation battle by the end of the campaign. Lorient begin the weekend as one of the league’s entertainers but they could do with shutting themselves down and getting a little bit more effective. Given that Regis Le Bris is likely to place an emphasis on defence in this one, and the fact Metz remain one of the weaker sides in the division, this one is not expected to be a thrilling encounter or watch for the neutral.
