Nadia Podoroska upset Eva Lys to book her place in the last eight in Sao Paulo.
The Argentine claimed a 7-5 6-2 win over the German fifth seed and now meets Suzan Lamens for the first time.
The Dutch world number 182 continued her return to form with a dominant 6-2 6-2 rout of third seed Solana Sierra.
This is a tough call as Lamens does seem to have found her best tennis here after a tough 2026. Meanwhile, Podoroska appears to be doing the same after a long time suffering with injury travails.
The ranking difference will mean little as a result of that and while we fancy Podoroska given her greater consistency in recent weeks, there’s very much scope for this to have a wealth of games to decide the semi-finalist.
