THE LOWDOWN

LILLE

After qualifying for the UEFA Europa Conference League last season, Lille knew they would have their work cut out but they are generally performing well in all competitions. They come into this on the back of a 1-1 draw away to Slovakian champions Slovan Bratislava in their most recent outing in midweek in the group stages of that competition.

That draw means the home team are now unbeaten in their last eight matches, remarkably conceding just three goals in that time. They begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting in the top five of the table with an intent to finish in the top three and potentially earn UEFA Champions League qualification.

TOULOUSE

Toulouse gained promotion in 2022 and then became cup winners in 2023 so they have been rushed into having to balance domestic and European commitments this season. They are languishing down in the bottom-half of the table with just two victories in their opening 11 Ligue 1 matches and, unlike Lille, are struggling to cope with the extra football.

Their most recent outing, though, was a thrilling and surprising 3-2 defeat of Liverpool in the group stages of the UEFA Europa League. Prior to that fairly historic victory over The Reds, Toulouse had been floundering, winless in five in all competitions and they are still being drawn into a relegation battle in Ligue 1.

THE TEAM NEWS

LILLE

The home team are without the likes of Bafode Diakite and Tiago Djalo, as well as winger Yusuf Yazici for this clash against Toulouse.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Chevalier; Santos, Yoro, Alexsandro, Ismaily; Andre, Bentaleb; Zhegrova, Gomes, Cavaleiro; David

UNAVAILABLE: Yazici (Suspended), Diakite (Injured), Djalo (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE:

TOULOUSE

Toulouse have a couple of suspended players with Frank Magri and Gabriel Suazo, whilst the likes of Zakaria Aboukhlal and Denis Genreau are injured.

PREDICTED XI (4-3-3): Restes; Desler, Costa, Nicolaisen, Kamanzi; Schmidt, Spierings, Casseres Jr; Donnum, Dallinga, Cissoko

UNAVAILABLE: Magri (Suspended), Suazo (Suspended), Genreau (Injured), Aboukhlal (Injured), Zanden (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

Paulo Fonseca’s Lille have generally coped well with having to play Ligue 1 and UEFA Europa Conference League football in the early stages of the season but the northerners may begin to feel it as the autumn and winter months kick in. However, fortunately for them this weekend, they face a Toulouse side that have even less experience and resources to deal with that balance so a Lille victory, given the similar predicaments but Lille’s home advantage and the fact they are simply a better side, is the way to go for this one.

BETTING TIP: LILLE TO WIN
