THE LOWDOWN

LE HAVRE

Following promotion last season, Le Havre have been generally impressive this season as they battle against the pre-season goals of simply avoiding relegation but they went into the March international break on the back of some really indifferent and underwhelming form. Their most recent outing saw them lose 2-1 to bottom-of-the-table, Clermont.

Le Havre have now managed just one win with six defeats in their last seven matches across all competitions. In fact, they have won just one of their last eight games since edging past lower league Chateauroux by a goal to nil in mid-January in the Round of 32 of the Coupe de France. They have been low-scoring throughout the campaign with just 26 scored in 26 matches.

MONTPELLIER

It was always expected to be the case that Montpellier Herault would drift into the relegation battle this season, especially with Ligue 1 being reduced from 20 to 18 teams. They begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting just outside of the bottom three and the relegation places, only a point above the relegation playoff place.

They come into this one on the back of a 6-2 annihilation at the hands of defending champions and runaway league leaders Paris Saint-Germain in their most recent outing a couple of weeks ago before the March international break. Montpellier have managed just two victories in their last nine matches across all competitions.

THE TEAM NEWS

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Bertaud; Tchato, Omeragic, Kouyate, Mincarelli; Ferri, Leroy; Nordin, Savanier, Coulibaly; Adams

QUESTIONABLE:

THE PREDICTION

This one is genuinely massive and potentially decisive as we head into the Ligue 1 ‘run-in’ with both sides very much fighting against dropping down into the second-tier. These are two sides that have spent a few months in terrible form and that form has been represented by some really low-scoring and underwhelming, disjointed attacking performances. As a result, especially given the importance of the match, a low-scoring encounter with few opportunities is to be expected on Sunday.
