Under the management of Pascal Gastien, with some smart recruitment and general off-the-pitch management, Clermont have consistently defied the odds since gaining promotion to Ligue 1 and even finished in the top-half last season but that is unlikely to be the case this time around with relegation appearing likely.
The hosts have managed just one win so far this season and that came against their immediate rivals down at the very bottom, Lyon, at Parc OL. They have since followed that up by being edged out by a defensively impressive Nice side by a goal to nil and then held to a goalless draw by out-of-form Strasbourg, who were down to ten men for nearly 20 minutes.
LORIENT
Regis Le Bris also helped defy the odds with Lorient last season as they began this season looking to build upon finishing in mid-table last year.
