THE LOWDOWN
WOLVES
With ten victories, five draws and ten defeats so far this season, Wolverhampton Wanderers have enjoyed a surprisingly very impressive campaign that has them potentially flirting with a push towards a top seven finish and European qualification under the management of former AFC Bournemouth boss Gary O’Neil.
Wolves come into this one on the back of completing the double over Tottenham Hotspur last weekend. After coming from behind to defeat Spurs by two goals to one at Molineux in November, Wolves were by far the better side last Saturday afternoon as a brace from Joao Gomes gave them the victory in north London.
SHEFFIELD UTD
The early December re-appointment of Chris Wilder, replacing Paul Heckingbottom, has helped Sheffield United steer clear of the record lowest points tally in Premier League history, which is 11 set by Derby County in 2008. However, that was on course to be beaten anyway and, it has to be said, is probably the best thing that can be said about Chris Wilder’s second stint at Bramall Lane.
The Blades conceded five goals at home to Brighton and Hove Albion for the second time in four weeks when they were thumped 5-0, their second successive 5-0 loss at home in the league, too, last weekend. They have conceded an astonishing 65 goals in those 25 matches and are well adrift of safety down at the bottom-of-the-table.
THE TEAM NEWS
WOLVES
Gary O'Neil has confirmed that Matheus Cunha is the only injury issue for Wolverhampton Wanderers this weekend with the rest of the squad fully-fit and available.
The former Atletico Madrid forward sustained a 'serious' hamstring injury recently and there are suggestions that he could miss the rest of this season.
PREDICTED XI (3-4-2-1): Sa; Kilman, Dawson, Toti; Semedo, Gomes, Lemina, Ait-Nouri; Sarabia, Neto; Hwang
UNAVAILABLE: Cunha (Injured)
QUESTIONABLE:
SHEFFIELD UTD
Mason Baldock was sent off against Brighton and will miss out through suspension, with Auston Trusty one of the candidates to replace him in defence, although George Baldock is another option should her recover from injury.
Chris Wilder was generally coy about the availability of his players with their also being uncertainty surrounding Ben Brereton Diaz and Cameron Archer's prospects of featuring.
PREDICTED XI (3-5-1-1): Grbic; Trusty, Ahmedhodzic, Robinson; Bogle, Hamer, Souza Osborn, Larouci; McAtee; McBurnie
UNAVAILABLE: Egan (Injured), Basham (Injured), Holgate (Suspended), Norrington-Davies (Injured), Lowe (Injured), Jebbison (Illness)
QUESTIONABLE: Baldock (Injured), Diaz (Injured), Archer (Injured)
THE PREDICTION
Coming into the season, there was an expectation that Wolverhampton Wanderers and Sheffield United would be struggling down at the bottom end of the table and battling against relegation. However, Gary O’Neil has inspired Wolves to an impressive campaign as they sit towards the European spots. They have had some trouble in breaking some of the weaker teams down this season but that really shouldn’t be the case against such a poor Sheffield United side. A comfortable home win is to be expected on Saturday afternoon.
TIP: WOLVES TO WIN
