THE LOWDOWN

SOUTHAMPTON

  • Despite being reduced to ten-men during the first-half of their match against Tottenham, Southampton showed magnificent fight to hold onto a 0-0 draw and a deserved point last time out.
  • Mohammed Salisu was the guilty party to receive a red card and he will be suspended for this one as is full-back Kyle Walker-Peters, whilst first choice goalkeeper Alex McCarthy remains out injured.

NEWCASTLE

  • Newcastle are coming off the back of an excellent performance which saw them earn a draw against Man Utd at St. James’ Park and Eddie Howe’s side will have been gutted not to have come away with all three points after hitting the woodwork late on, whilst Man Utd David De Gea made two world class saves.
  • That point came at a huge cost, as both striker Callum Wilson and wideman Allan Saint-Maximin suffered injuries that will rule them both out here and Howe also won’t be able to call upon the likes of Javier Manquillo through suspension and Ryan Fraser through injury, both of whom also started against Man Utd.

QUESTIONABLE:

THE PREDICTION

Both teams have been significantly weakened through injuries and suspensions, so neither manager will be able to call upon their strongest starting XI in this one. Southampton boast home advantage, however the effort they put in to hold a strong Tottenham side with just ten-men will have taken its toll on the Saints players physically and Newcastle may well take advantage as they desperately search for points to aide them in their relegation battle. Provided the Magpies can repeat their level of performance shown against Man Utd then they are more than capable off accruing at least a point in this one and should be backed to do just that via the double chance market.

Tip: NEWCASTLE TO WIN/DRAW DOUBLE CHANCE

*This match has been postponed due to the volume of injuries and Covid-19 cases within the Newcastle squad.
