THE LOWDOWN

ASTON VILLA

Aston Villa come into this weekend’s huge clash at Villa Park after sharing a goalless draw with Ajax at the Johann Cruyff Arena in Amsterdam on Thursday evening in the first-leg of their UEFA Europa Conference League Round of 16 tie. They have been in much-improved and very strong form, domestically.

Their most recent Premier League outing saw them come out on top in a topsy turvy encounter with Luton Town at Kenilworth Road. Ollie Watkins scored a brace to put Villa 2-0 up in that game before goals from Carlton Morris and Tahith Chong levelled it for the Hatters. Villa then snatched all three points with an 89th minute winning goal from Lucas Digne.

TOTTENHAM

Ange Postecoglou will not come under pressure if Tottenham Hotspur fail to finish in the top four and qualify for the UEFA Champions League this season but questions will be asked of the Australian after the start to the season that they enjoyed and the fact they, unlike their rivals for fourth Aston Villa, have had no European football to distract or fatigue them.

They come into this one on the back of easing mounting pressure last weekend, coming from behind to defeat capital city rivals Crystal Palace by three goals to one at the weekend. Palace took the lead via Eberechi Eze in that match before goals from Timo Werner, Cristian Romero and Son Heung-min earned three points for Spurs.

THE TEAM NEWS

ASTON VILLA

After their midweek UEFA Europa Conference League clash, Unai Emery's press conference will not take place until Saturday so there is the possibility that the following information is subject to change. What we do know is they are without long-term injury absentees; Tyrone Mings, Boubacar Kamara and Emi Buendia.

The Villains are also expected to remain without both Jacob Ramsey and Jhon Duran with both players major doubts for this weekend but defender Diego Carlos has returned to the first-team following his knee injury.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Martinez; Cash, Konsa, Torres, Alex Moreno; Douglas Luiz, Tielemans; Bailey, McGinn, Diaby; Watkins

UNAVAILABLE: Mings (Injured), Kamara (Injured), Buendia (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Ramsey (Injured), Duran (Injured)

TOTTENHAM

Ange Postecoglou has confirmed that Spanish right-back Pedro Porro will be 'available' for this weekend's trip north to Birmingham with the defender having missed the last few weeks due to injury.

The Tottenham boss, though, did have to confirm that the rest of their injury concerns and doubts are 'still in rehab'. That includes the likes of forward Richarlison, Manor Solomon, Fraser Forster and Ryan Sessegnon.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Vicario; Pedro Porro, Romero, Van de Ven, Udogie; Bentancur, Sarr; Kulusevski, Maddison, Werner; Son

UNAVAILABLE: Forster (Injured), Sessegnon (Injured), Solomon (Injured), Richarlison (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

This could be huge in determining which teams finish in the top four or five in the Premier League this season. There is a chance that fifth place gets UEFA Champions League football next season due to the new format and rules but neither will want to run that risk so the goal remains to finish in the top four. Villa made some changes to their team that drew with Ajax as John McGinn and Leon Bailey were rested. Tottenham were lacklustre, as has often been the case in recent months, but came from behind last weekend and have an abundance of quality going forward. This should be a thriller at Villa this Sunday with both teams scoring seeming likely.

TIP: BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE
