THE LOWDOWN

EUPEN

In the summer, former Wolfsburg boss Florian Kohfeldt was appointed as Eupen manager but after a strong start to the campaign, Eupen have fallen off a bit of a clip and begin the match day sitting in the bottom four. They won three of their opening five matches but have managed just one win in their subsequent ten games.

They come into this one on the back of a 2-0 defeat away to Cercle Brugge at the Janbreydelstadion, last weekend. That loss followed on from a very disappointing 3-1 defeat at home to Racing White Daring Molenbeek, prior to the November international break. No team has conceded more than the 32 that they have let in so far this season.

KORTRIJK

The reduction in the Belgian Jupiler Pro League from 18 to 16 teams means that Kortrijk were always expected to struggle down at the bottom end of the table and that has very much been the case for the Vincent Tan-owned project, who have a few Cardiff City loanees in their squad. They sacked Edward Still and his successor, Glen De Boeck, is now under pressure.

They begin the 16th match day of the 2023/24 campaign sitting rock-bottom in the table with just two victories and nine points collected in their opening 15 matches. In those 15 games, they have managed to score just ten goals with no other side managing fewer than 16. They were hammered 3-0 by Mechelen, last weekend.

THE TEAM NEWS

PREDICTED XI (3-4-1-2): Slonina; Paeshuyse, Palsson, Kral; Magnee, Keita, Mohwald, Davidson; Pantovic; Charles-Cook, Nuhu

KORTRIJK

Kortrijk have a few injury concerns for this weekend with the likes of Thierry Ambrose and Youssef Challouk remaining doubts as they face Eupen.

PREDICTED XI (3-4-2-1): Vandenberghe; Mampassi, Silva, Kana; Alebiosu, Malinov, Kadri, De Neve; Ojo, Bruno; Davies

UNAVAILABLE:

QUESTIONABLE: Radovanovic (Injured), Ambrose (Injured), Challouk (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

As a former manager of Wolfsburg, Florian Kohfeldt’s Eupen are expected and plan to be a naturally front foot and aggressive side. However, their terrible and inconsistent form throughout the campaign means they are really struggling for any sort of fluency at the moment. They now take on the worst team in the league that don’t even have the benefit of effective attacking play so a low-scoring encounter with under 2.5 goals appears inevitable for this likely tense and nervy affair.

BETTING TIP: UNDER 2.5 GOALS
