Filip Misolic was the top seed in qualifying and made it through with two straight set victories. Aside from a first-round defeat at Wimbledon, the Austrian’s form has been very strong in recent times. He won a Challenger event in Poznan and then transitioned to grass to reach the main draw at SW19 with three straight wins in qualifying. Misolic returned to clay in Braunschweig and won another three matches before losing to Mariano Navone in the semi-finals. He was the only player to take a set off Navone, who went on to win the tournament.
Elmer Moller was on a three match losing streak heading into the Iasi Challenger, but the fourth seed performed brilliantly to win five matches in a row and win his second title of the season, following on from his win in Oeiras three months prior.
There’s just three places separating these two in the rankings and they’re both in fine form. We can expect this one to be close, and likely to be decided in a third set.
