FPL 2023-24 | Double Gameweek 25 | Captain Picks

If you were an FPL manager that captained a Man City player in Gameweek 24, specifically Erling Haaland (£14.4m) then you’d have more than likely been celebrating by the end of last Saturday. He left it until deep into the second half, but Haaland finally opened the scoring for Pep Guardiola’s side against Everton before adding a second goal soon after in a 2-0 win, Kevin De Bruyne (£10.8m) supplying another assist. The two accumulated 13 and 4 fantasy points respectively. Man City now enter a double gameweek alongside Liverpool, Brentford and Luton, a hugely exciting prospect for FPL bosses.

When taking into account the plethora of options available from those players fortunate enough to have two fixtures in Double Gameweek 25 and the importance of choosing correctly, we’ve compiled cases for five different premium captain picks, alongside our usual differential selection ahead of Saturday’s 11:00 deadline.

PREMIUM OPTIONS

Phil Foden (£8.0m) vs CHE (H), BRE (H)

In arguably the form of his career, Phil Foden is proving a constant attacking threat wherever he seems to play within the Man City midfield. Foden boasts this incredible knack of finding pockets of space in and around the opposition penalty box and it is leading to numerous attacking returns, his Gameweek 23 hat-trick away at Brentford accruing 20 FPL points for his joyful owners. He has eight attacking returns to his name over the last seven gameweeks and is coming off the back of a goal and assist in Man City midweek victory over FC Copenhagen in the Champions League.

Erling Haaland (£14.4m) vs CHE (H), BRE (H)

It would be no surprise if plenty of fantasy managers utilise their triple captain chip on Erling Haaland across Double Gameweek 25 with two home fixtures for Man City. Especially now that he is back among the goals following his brace against Everton last weekend. Those two strikes took him to 16 Premier League goals for the season, including six assists and a whopping 131 fantasy points. The reverse fixture vs Chelsea saw the Norwegian forward bag two goals, an assist and a 16-point-haul, which only enhances his triple captaincy credentials and after being shut out in Denmark on Tuesday, expect Haaland to take his frustrations out on both Chelsea and Brentford.

Kevin De Bruyne (£10.8m) vs CHE (H), BRE (H)

Is there a more dangerous midfielder player in the world right now than Kevin De Bruyne? Since his return from injury, the Belgian sensation has been on a tear and seems impossible to stop. He has set up a goal in each of the last four gameweeks, also scoring one himself in Gameweek 21. Like Foden, De Bruyne also managed a goal and assist in the Champions League midweek and once again, the vast majority of Man City’s offensive play ran through him. With 28 FPL points accumulated since Gameweek 21, De Bruyne may be the least likely of Man City’s attacking assets to be rotated following his benching last weekend vs Everton. Having said that, it would be foolish to second guess Guardiola!

Diogo Jota (£8.3m) vs BRE (a), LUT (H)

The man who has taken up the goalscoring mantle in the absence of Mo Salah, Liverpool’s Diogo Jota was on the scoresheet for the fourth time in four Premier League fixtures last Saturday against Burnley. Listed generously as a midfielder in FPL, Jota’s 7 points vs the Clarets means that he has now acquired a whopping 49 fantasy points over the course of his last six league appearances for the Reds, including five goals and three assists. Following an influx of new owners since the turn of the year, Jota’s premium captaincy status is warranted and with two enticing fixtures on paper in Double Gameweek 25, he is one to consider for those FPL managers unwilling to risk the Pep roulette.

Mo Salah (£14.0m) vs BRE (a), LUT (H)

How about this for a wildcard selection! The FPL community was rocked when pictures emerged earlier this week of Mo Salah taking part in team training for Liverpool ahead of their two Double Gameweek 25 fixtures. The top fantasy scorer this season in all positions with 156 points, a hamstring injury sustained whilst on AFCON duty for Egypt has kept Salah out of action and was expected to see him not feature through most if not all of Liverpool’s next two league fixtures. However, to see the attacking wide-man training with his teammates suggests that a return is imminent. When taking into account his 14 goals, eight assists and seven double-figure point-hauls so far this season, if any player is worth ripping your team up for to bring in and captain in Double Gameweek 25, it has to be Salah.

DIFFERENTIAL OPTION

Ivan Toney (£8.2m) vs LIV (H), MCI (a)

Our differential pick also boasts two Gameweek 25 fixtures, but unlike our premium choices, doesn’t play for Liverpool or Man City. Instead, Ivan Toney will face both teams for Brentford as he looks to continue his excellent form since returning from a long-standing suspension. The four gameweeks in which Toney has featured for Thomas Frank’s side has seen him rack up three goals, an assist and 26 FPL points. It’s also worth noting that the 27-year-old striker scored twice in Brentford’s shock win over Man City at the Etihad Stadium last season. A huge gamble to hand him the armband, but potentially a super shrewd one.
