THE LOWDOWN

NORTHERN SUPERCHARGERS

A complete collapse in form has seen Northern Superchargers reduced to rank outsiders now when it comes to finishing inside the top three. Not only do they need to beat Welsh Fire here, they need to beat them extremely well in order to boost up their net-run-rate which would give them a chance of sneaking into the next round. The Superchargers’ latest defeat was by far the most damaging from their point of view. After conceding 164 with the bat against Manchester Originals, Wayne Parnell’s side were bowled out for just 83, thus losing by a thumping 81 runs.

WELSH FIRE

There was plenty of intrigue over how Welsh Fire would look with Shaheen Shah Afridi and Haris Rauf, but thankfully for them, the newly recruited Black Caps duo of Matt Henry and Lockie Ferguson impressed in their debuts, each picking up a couple of wickets. The Fire kept the shackles on London Spirit in Cardiff, ensuring they could only score 109/9 and whilst they suffered a little wobble during their run chase, captain Tom Abell and Glenn Phillips held their nerve down the order to guide Welsh Fire home with seven balls to spare.

THE PREDICTION

Northern Superchargers simply must improve the volume of runs they are scoring at present to give them the best chance of success here on what is normally a good batting pitch at Headingley. But that seems unlikely with their batters desperately short of form and against a Fire unit who showed real maturity and skill in beating Southern Brave this past Sunday. Any momentum has been sucked out of the hosts and the more battle-hardened Welsh Fire should get the job done in this one, giving themselves a real chance of crashing the top three.

BETTING TIP: WELSH FIRE TO WIN
