BIRMINGHAM PHOENIX
Birmingham Phoenix have had a competition to forget, but they’ll want to at least finish on a high at Edgbaston, the venue for their only win of the Men’s Hundred thus far, ironically against long-standing table toppers Oval Invincibles. More recently, the Phoenix were second best by some margin against Trent Rockets. After conceding 162 runs from their 100 balls bowled, Moeen Ali’s never got close in response, scoring just 116/9 with Jamie Smith (one of the only bright sparks of their tournament) hitting 38.
LONDON SPIRIT
London Spirit’s defeat away at Welsh Fire by six wickets this past weekend has knocked them out of the Men’s Hundred, a disappointing outcome for Dan Lawrence in his first year as captain after Eoin Morgan guided them to the knockout stage in 2022. A couple of early washouts didn’t help their cause but ultimately, the Spirit have won just two matches across the competition so far, which was never going to be enough. They are also yet to taste victory away from home, their only two wins so far having come at Lord’s.
THE PREDICTION
Whilst London Spirit may have accumulated more points than Birmingham Phoenix as it stands, these two teams are fairly well-matched and the Phoenix at Edgbaston will no doubt see this is a very winnable game. The Spirit’s record on the road has been extremely poor and it’s hard to see that changing at this stage of the tournament against Moeen’s men, who are also far better on their own patch. Back Birmingham Phoenix to beat London Spirit in this dead rubber.
