THE TEAM NEWS

MARATHA ARABIANS

  • Maratha Arabians fell short in the 2018 edition of the T10 League as the lost out to the eventual champions Northern Warriors and they return to action with Andy Flower coaching them and Yuvraj Singh leading the team out in the middle.
  • Yuvraj is joined by Dwayne Bravo and Sri Lankan legend Lasith Malinga and the veteran trio will hope their fitness stands up as Bravo especially has been missing for some time due to injury, but they do have plenty of quality around them.
  • Big-hitting Aussie star Chris Lynn is the icon player, while they can also boast Hazratullah Zazai, Adam Lyth, Chadwick Walton and mercurial spinner Wanindu Hasaranga as they have another strong squad for this year’s campaign.

NORTHERN WARRIORS

  • Northern Warriors are the defending champions coming into this new T10 League tournament and they will be confident of repeating last year’s triumph as they have retained so many players from last year.
  • The team has a heavy Caribbean influence once again as Darren Sammy will skipper the side and he will be supported by Andre Russell, Lendl Simmons and last year’s top runscorer Nicholas Pooran, while Chris Green and Sam Billings will be key men.
  • They will however be without one key player from last year as Hardus Viljoen enjoyed a fantastic tournament as leading wicket-taker in 2018 with 18 wickets – eight more than any other player – so they will need somebody else to step up in his absence.

THE PREDICTION

This match is a repeat of the second Eliminator final from last year when the Northern Warriors beat Maratha Arabians by ten wickets in a dominant display before going on to win the tournament. The Warriors have plenty of Caribbean talent once again and the big-hitting of Dre Russ, Nicholas Pooran and Lendl Simmons will make them a fearsome opponent. The Arabians have plenty of talent in their ranks too and this game will essentially come down to which of their key players hit form right from the start. Any one particular batsman can win the game here and with the West Indian players notoriously slow to get going, the Arabians may be able to inflict some revenge and get an opening win.
