THE TEAM NEWS

MULTAN SULTANS

  • Multan Sultans produced a brilliant display as they proved far too good for Peshawar Zalmi in PSL 5 to claim their second victory of the tournament but their challenge will be to build on that performance.
  • The Sultans ripped through the Zalmi batting line-up to bowl them out for 123 with Sohail Tanvir ending with superb figures of 4-13 as he played a huge role in giving his side a modest total to chase down.
  • Their reply got off to a wobbly start as they were reduced to 10/2 and then 47/4 but Rilee Rossouw and Khushdil Shah steadied the ship and that pair ended unbeaten with scores of 49* and 43* respectively to guide their side to what turned out to be a comfortable victory.

KARACHI KINGS

  • Karachi Kings lost a thrilling contest with reigning champions Quetta Gladiators as they suffered their first loss of PSL 5 and they will be keen to get back to winning ways as they face Multan Sultans in this contest.
  • Despite none of their players standing out with the bat, the Kings still managed to post 156/9 with Alex Hales top-scoring with a meek 29 as he failed to build on a promising start along with several other players in the line-up.
  • Karachi failed to break up several solid partnerships quickly enough and the Gladiators did enough to edge a five-wicket win with five balls remaining with the Kings having plenty more to offer with both bat and ball than they showed in this game.

THE PREDICTION

Karachi Kings have never lost to Multan Sultans in the Pakistan Super League and they will hope to continue that record as the teams meet in PSL 5. Their first meeting was rained off but the Kings claimed victory in the next three contests. The Sultans will not let that record concern them in this game and having just produced a superb win in their first game on home soil in this campaign, they should be able to break their duck against the Kings although they will have to play to their potential to keep Karachi’s strike players in check.
