THE TEAM NEWS

INDIA

  • India’s thumping eight-wicket win over Scotland keeps them in with a chance of reaching the semi-finals, although that chance may be over by the time that they take to the field here should New Zealand emerge triumphant over Afghanistan the day before this match.
  • Spin-bowler Ravichandran Ashwin retained his place in the side and took a wicket after impressing against Afghanistan and the likelihood is that he makes a third successive appearance in this one, whilst batter Ishan Kishan will likely miss out once again.

NAMIBIA

  • Since beating Scotland in their opening Super 12s match, Namibia have since lost each of their last three games and are now unable to reach the semi-final stage heading into this historic showdown against India.
  • Namibia will need all their key players to put in star performances if they are to pull off what would be the shock of the tournament, with all-rounder David Wiese and top order batter Craig Williams particularly important from their point of view.

THE PREDICTION

Even if India find themselves in a position where they are unable to reach the semi-finals even with victory here, Virat Kohli in his final match as India’s T20 captain will be expecting a dominant performance from his side. India are understandably a far stronger team than Namibia in all departments whether it be batting or bowling and they have no excuse not to secure a comfortable win. Namibia to their credit will no doubt put in a strong performance in a fixture that is a testament to how far they have come as a cricketing nature. However, that won’t be enough for them to avoid defeat.
