THE TEAM NEWS

NAMIBIA

  • Namibia suffered a heavy seven-wicket defeat in their first game of the T20 World Cup, being bowled out for just 96, a target which proved a stroll for Sri Lanka who sealed victory in the 14th over.
  • The batting is likely to be of a primary concern for Namibia, who need to provide Craig Williams with better support, the number three batter having been responsible for the bulk off Namibia’s recent runs in this format, including against Sri Lanka last time out, which saw him top score with 29.

NETHERLANDS

  • A run out in the first over of the match between Netherlands and Ireland set the tone for what was a poor all-round performance from Pieter Seelaar’s side with the bat, who were dismissed for 106, a total chased down in 15.1 overs for the loss of just three wickets by Ireland.
  • It would be no surprise if Netherlands were to consider making a number of changes for this match with the likes of opening batter Stephan Myburgh and fast bowler Paul van Meekeren among the names desperate for an opportunity to play.

THE PREDICTION

The stakes could not be higher for both nations here with defeat all but guaranteeing their exit from the competition at this early stage. Each are clearly better than what they showed in their first match and an improvement all-round showing is expected from the two teams. However, when it comes down to the crunch, the Netherlands have the more experienced all-round unit with players that have competed in games of a high magnitude more regularly with it be through domestic cricket, franchise cricket or international cricket. Whilst Namibia won’t wilt easily, Netherlands should come through this one and keep themselves well in contention for qualification to the Super 12s.
