THE TEAM NEWS

BANGLADESH

  • Bangladesh bounced back from defeat against Scotland with a vital 26-run victory over Oman, with Mohammad Naim and Shakib Al Hasan setting the tone with the bat, scoring 64 and 42 respectively to help accrue 153 runs, ultimately a winning total.
  • Shakib also picked up three wickets with Mustafizur Rahman took four scalps himself and Bangladesh are likely to retain the same side, provided they have suffered no unforeseen injuries.

PAPUA NEW GUINEA

  • Papua New Guinea’s hopes of qualifying for the Super 12s are hanging by a thread and only a thumping win here would give them any chance of progressing after losing their opening two matches of the competition against Oman and Scotland.
  • Bowler Chad Soper was brought into the side against Scotland, replacing Damien Ravu and the former is expected to retain his place in the team after picking up three wickets.

THE PREDICTION

On paper, there is a world of difference between these two sides with Papua New Guinea having struggled so far in the tournament. From a batting perspective they have lost 19 wickets across their two games played, whilst their bowling has lacked the consistency you would perhaps see from a stronger nation. When taking into account the class of this Bangladesh side in comparison with a number of players vastly experienced on the big stage, the Tigers will be expected to accrue a big victory here, knowing that their hopes of qualification could well come down to net run rate.
