India beat West Indies by nine wickets
West Indies were in trouble halfway through their innings and looks like collapsing to a subpar score. However, the terrific exploits of Shimron Hetmyer with the bat coming in at number six rescued the Windies, Hetmyer striking 61 from 39 balls and helping his side to a competitive 178/8. One big problem though, that total didn’t prove to be competitive at all as the West Indian bowlers were smashed to all parts by India’s openers and never did the Windies look like pulling things back. They eventually succumbed to a nine-wicket defeat, setting up a series decider here.
India look to be peaking at just the right time, with their showing in the fourth T20i by far the best of either side across the series so far. Most pleasing for the tourists will be the fact that the dominant nine-wicket victory was secured due to a brilliant display from their young opening pair. The duo of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill put on a whopping 165 for the first wicket chasing 179, the former finishing unbeaten on 84, whilst Gill reached 77 before getting out. He did his job though, as India raced over the line with three overs to spare.
Unfortunately for West Indies, India have stepped up a gear or two as this series has gone on and are now showing what they are capable of when on song. The Windies cannot compete with India when their batters are in such destructive form and it could prove a similar story as the fourth T20i here on the same ground, less than 24 hours later. Expect a closer contest this time round, but a resurgent India to continue their revival and complete a fantastic comeback, winning the series by three games to two.
TIP: INDIA TO WIN
