THE TEAM NEWS
UNITED ARAB EMIRATES
- United Arab Emirates will feel they pushed Ireland close in their opening T20 international but they ultimately fell short with both bat and ball and they will need to improve to come out on top in this second contest.
- Having scored 123/7, UAE were guilty of not scoring quickly enough despite a late cameo from Kashif Daud who managed to score 17 not out from just ten deliveries with his efforts better than those of the top three in the batting order.
- In truth, the total was never likely to be enough and UAE’s inability to break up a strong opening partnership proved to be extremely costly with that likely to be their focus in this game in order to give themselves a better chance of victory.
IRELAND
- Ireland claimed a seven-wicket success in their clash with United Arab Emirates with some of their key men doing the business to lead them to the victory and they will be looking for a repeat performance to wrap the series up.
- Curtis Campher, Mark Adair and Ben White combined for seven wickets to restrict their opponents to just 123 and their opening pair of Paul Stirling and Kevin O’Brien made relatively light work of that total.
- Stirling scored 53 with O’Brien contributing 46 as they combined for an opening partnership of 90 with under 13 overs on the board, ensuring Ireland were in complete control and they slowly made their way to the winning mark.
THE PREDICTION
United Arab Emirates showed some promising signs in their clash with Ireland but they still need to make improvements across the board if they are to gain revenge in this second game. They need to find a way to score quicker and the top order will also need to score more runs to help their rate along. They also showed plenty of fight with the ball but it was too little, too late with Ireland in a comfortable position. Paul Stirling was the standout performer for his side and with the opener getting into his groove with the bat, Ireland should be able to get enough runs on the board - regardless of batting first or second - to make it back-to-back victories.
