THE TEAM NEWS

SRI LANKA

  • Sri Lanka will be gunning for revenge in their clash with reigning T20 world champions Australia after they were on the end of a 4-1 series defeat when they met earlier in the year, especially as they will feel that the outcome of that series did not reflect their efforts.
  • That scoreline was perhaps too lopsided but home advantage should play into their hands here and they have named a couple of newcomers in the shape of Nuwanidu Fernando and Matheesha Pathirana as they attempt to complement the more senior members of the squad.

AUSTRALIA

  • Australia have won nine of their last ten T20i matches and they will be difficult to topple once again in this series, although they are likely to face a trial by spin which could severely test their ability with the bat.
  • The Aussies come into this boasting an almost fully-fit squad with only Pat Cummins and Adam Zampa absent while there is no place for Tim David despite plenty of speculation surrounding potential inclusion.

THE PREDICTION

Sri Lanka will be hoping to utilise their spinning prowess on home soil as they aim to get the better of T20 world champions Australia. The hosts face a tricky task to overturn a 4-1 series loss in their previous T20i series but will believe they have the tools to cause their opponents problems, especially with the ball. However, the Aussies come into this on a great run of form having won nine of their last games in this format and the tourists can begin this series with a victory if the weather does not prevent a result from being achieved.
