THE TEAM NEWS

PAKISTAN

  • Pakistan took an unassailable lead in the three-match T20i series against West Indies this past Tuesday, beating them by 9 runs after being put into bat and scoring 172/8 from their 20 overs.
  • It was very much a team contribution for Pakistan to reach their final total with three batters recording scores within the 30s, before the bowling unit took charge with four of the five bowlers utilised by Pakistan picking up at least two wickets.
  • With the series secured, it would be no surprise if the hosts opted to rest a couple of key players for this final T20i, particularly on the bowling side with the likes of Shaheen Shah Afridi and Haris Rauf both candidates to be rested.

WEST INDIES

  • West Indies made a better fist of their run chase in the second T20i than they did the first, however it wasn’t enough as they were bowled out for 163, ten runs short of their victory target with all 20 overs bowled.
  • Opener Brandon King got the Windies off to a good start with a swift 67 from just 43 deliveries and he’ll be hoping to continue making a positive impression on the head coach, whilst Akeal Hosein bowled his four overs at an economy rate of just four runs per over.
  • The likes of Roston Chase, Sheldon Cottrell and Kyle Mayers will continue not to be considered for selection in this T20i series following their positive Covid-19 tests, joining West Indies’ rested regulars on the sidelines.

THE PREDICTION

Pakistan’s batting continues to dominate this T20i series, with home advantage no doubt proving crucial as their players boast far more experience playing on the surface you would expect to see in Karachi. This is in addition to their bowlers having had the better of the West Indian batting order, bowling them out twice in succession. Ultimately Pakistan have the superior players in this format across their side with the likes of Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam to name just two who have the capabilities of putting the Windies bowling attack to the sword. With confidence still very high among the home camp with 10 of their last 11 T20i fixtures ending in victory, backing a Pakistan win is very much the sensible play here.
