THE LOWDOWN

IRELAND

Ireland failed to stem the flow of runs when bowling against India in the second T20i between the two nations and it ultimately left them too much to do with the bat. The moment both Paul Stirling and Lorcan Tucker were each out for nought, the game was only ending one way. Andy Balbirnie deserves credit though for a very good 72 from 51 balls which helped Ireland at least avoid a total thrashing, losing by 33 runs in the end after ending on 152/8 chasing 186.

INDIA

India as expected, wound up far too strong for Ireland and have now sealed the series with a game left to play. The tone was set with the bat as opener Ruturaj Gaikwad struck a half-century before the middle order proceeded to pick up the pace, ensuring the tourists accrued an unassailable score of 185/5 batting first. Sanju Samson hit 40 from 26 balls, whilst Rinku Singh carried his IPL form onto the international scene with 38 from just 21 balls. Once bowler Prasidh Krishna had carved his way through Ireland’s top order during the powerplay, the outcome was inevitable.

THE PREDICTION

Whilst Ireland can at least compete with the bat against this Indian side especially with the small boundaries in Dublin, it’s clear that their bowlers are struggling against the top-quality hitters that the visiting side possess. As was the case last time out, India’s substantial firepower should see Ireland unable to match them in terms of fast run accumulation, so expect another win here for India and as such a series sweep in this short tour.

TIP: INDIA TO WIN
