THE LOWDOWN
ENGLAND
After a couple of dominating performance, it was England’s turn to get hammered by New Zealand in the third T20i, the hosts losing by 74 runs. Gus Atkinson impressed again in his second match, taking two wickets for 31 runs, but the majority of his teammates were hit all around the park, the spinners in particular taking some huge tap. No batters got going in response with a top score of just 40 from Jos Buttler as the home side slipped to a sizeable defeat.
NEW ZEALAND
New Zealand kept themselves in the series with a resounding 74-run triumph at Edgbaston, their bowlers finally managing to keep a formidable England batting line-up under lock and key after racking up a big score batting first. Opener Finn Allen struck 83 from 53 balls, whilst Glenn Phillips continued his good form with 69 from 34 balls. Unlike England’s spinners, Ish Sodhi cashed in with runs on the board, with three wickets whilst pacer Kyle Jamieson also took three scalps as the Black Caps bowled out England for only 128.
THE PREDICTION
You’d expect a much-improved showing from England with the bat at Trent Bridge, normally a ground where England really cash in runs-wise. New Zealand deserve credit as for how well they played last time out, but it’s a big ask for them to repeat the dose against such strong opposition. It’s hard to see this England batting unit misfiring for a second game running so back them to gain revenge on New Zealand here.
BETTING TIP: ENGLAND TO WIN
