Jonny Clayton edged a tight affair with Krzysztof Ratajski in the first round, with all sets going to a deciding leg. The Ferret was ultimately a 2-1 winner, and impressively hit almost two-thirds of his attempts at a starting double over the course of the match.
Wessel Nijman buried the demons of his first-round loss to Rob Cross last year by this time defeating the former world champion in straight sets, although it wasn't exactly a match where he needed to play at the top of his game.
Clayton has won three of his four career meetings with Nijman and is certainly a more comfortable stage player than the talented Dutchman is at the moment. Clayton will no doubt need to improve his level if he is to challenge for the title, but as a former winner of this event, we see his experience carrying him through against Nijman.
