Danny Noppert maintained his strong record at the World Grand Prix with a 2-1 victory over Niko Springer in the first round, with the Dutchman withstanding a mid-game rally from his opponent to progress to the last 16.
Noppy will take on Ryan Joyce, who was his trademark clinical self in his comeback win over struggling Michael van Gerwen. Joyce checked out a number of high finishes to capitalise on MVG's wayward darts, and it is clear that this format suits Joyce, who reached the semi-finals here two years ago.
Noppert is perhaps a little more consistent with his scoring, but Joyce's ability to make the most of his chances should ensure plenty of ebbs and flows in this contest. Do not be surprised to see this go over 4.5 sets.
