THE TEAM NEWS

BANGLADESH

  • For the second successive T20i, Bangladesh saw a modest total chased down, this time only managing a total of 108/7 batting first, a score that was never going to be enough against a strong Pakistan batting line-up.
  • Only batter Najmul Hossain Santo showed any serious resistance against Pakistan’s bowling, top scoring with 40 whilst Afif Hossain managed 20 as the rest of Bangladesh’s batting wilted.
  • The series is now lost, with Pakistan having taken an unassailable lead and with that in mind, the Tigers may look to rotate their bowling unit should they wish to give any players a rest.

PAKISTAN

  • Pakistan combined raw pace with mystery spin extremely well in the second T20i, with Shaheen Shah Afridi and Shadab Khan each picking up two wickets in what was a fine all-round effort that left Bangladesh well short with the bat.
  • Fakhar Zaman is currently in excellent form and Pakistan’s number one was the bedrock of his side’s chase with 57 not out, putting on 85 for the second wicket with opener Mohammad Rizwan.
  • The temptation may be there for Pakistan to take their fast bowlers such as Shaheen and Haris Rauf out of the firing line for the third T20i, not wanting to burn them out when considering their importance to the team.

THE PREDICTION

Pakistan looked far more assured with the bat in the second T20i with their players getting more and more used to the bowler friendly conditions in Mirpur. Combine that with the reliability of their excellent bowling unit and Bangladesh found themselves well and truly outclassed. Whilst the Tigers may find themselves with a better chance of success in this third T20i should Pakistan rest any key players, Babar Azam's side will still enter the contest as deserved favourites. The smart play is to wait until the teams are announced before making any moves here, but if Pakistan do continue to field their big guns, then they should once again prove too strong for Bangladesh in this final T20i of the series.
