THE LOWDOWN

CHENNAI SUPER KINGS

  • Chennai Super Kings made it back-to-back losses to begin the new Indian Premier League season as the defence of their title suffered another setback with defeat against Lucknow Super Giants last time out.
  • The pressure will be on to respond in this contest with Punjab Kings and for CSK, more is needed with the ball having managed to take just eight wickets in their two matches to date with that being a huge area for improvement.

PUNJAB KINGS

  • Punjab Kings were unable to build on an impressive showing in their opening game of the IPL as they were on the end of a hammering against Kolkata Knight Riders in their latest encounter.
  • They were beaten by six wickets as KKR chased down their paltry target of 138 with over five overs to spare but they will be confident of improving with the bat in this clash as England international Jonny Bairstow looks set to make his first appearance of the year.

THE PREDICTION

Chennai Super Kings will be desperate to get off the mark at the third time of asking having lost their opening two games of the new Indian Premier League season. The reigning IPL champions were superb with the bat last time out as they posted 210 runs but their bowling unit let them down. Punjab Kings have also struggled with the ball so far with little to split the two but CSK should have enough with the bat in this one to get the job done.
