THE LOWDOWN
AFGHANISTAN
Coach: Jonathan Trott
Captain: Hashmatullah Shahidi
- Afghanistan’s second win of the tournament so far was almost the perfect showing in all departments, as they comprehensively got the better of Pakistan, beating them by eight wickets in Chennai.
- Bowling first, Afghanistan restricted Pakistan to 282/7 with World Cup debutant Noor Ahmad taking three wickets, before a comfortably managed run chase saw Afghanistan reach their victory target with an over to spare, losing just two wickets in the process.
SRI LANKA
Coach: Chris Silverwood
Captain: Dasun Shanaka
- Sri Lanka are really coming into form now, but the question is whether it has come too late for them after a bad start saw them lose their first three matches, before winning their next two coming into this latest challenge.
- Most recently, Sri Lanka shocked many by demolishing reigning world champions England by eight wickets, extending their brilliant record against them in World Cups after a masterful bowling performance that saw Dasun Shanaka’s side dismiss England for 156, leading to a straightforward run chase.
THE PREDICTION
The winner here will be easily the best placed nation to potentially break into the top four in the latter half of this World Cup group stage with both locked on four points as it stands. The two teams look well-matched on paper with strong spin-bowlers and top order batters in good shape. Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Pathum Nissanka are both scoring plenty of runs for their respective sides opening the batting and how they get on here will be crucial. Having said that, Sri Lanka contain that bit of extra experience which may be vital in what is a massive game with so much pressure on both teams. This makes backing them to win potentially the shrewd play.
BETTING TIP: SRI LANKA TO WIN
