THE TEAM NEWS

PERTH SCORCHERS

  • Perth Scorchers got themselves back to winning ways last time out, beating reigning champions Sydney Sixers for the second time this season with captain Ashton Turner playing a match winning knock of 69 not out as his side successfully chased down 152.
  • Having tested positive for Covid-19, big hitting batter Colin Munro remains unavailable for the Scorchers, whilst bowler Jason Behrendorff has also isolated due to being a close contact of Munro’s and may also miss this one.

MELBOURNE STARS

  • Melbourne Stars are searching for a second victory in the space of two days after beating Adelaide Strikers by five wickets at the MCG, chasing down a target of 140 with five balls to spare.
  • After having the vast majority of their squad wiped out through Covid-19, they are starting to get many of their players back, whilst Joe Clarke continues to shine with the bat having just struck his fourth successive half-century.

THE PREDICTION

Whilst Perth Scorchers will enter this contest as favourites considering that they sit top of the BBL table having won nine of their 11 matches played, Melbourne Stars boast the momentum, having just come off the back of a victory, an excellent result considering a number of their players had only just returned from isolation. The absence of Munro and Behrendorff do weaken the Scorchers and Melbourne Stars with the likes of Adam Zampa, Qais Ahmad and Haris Rauf among their bowling attack, not to mention the in-form Clarke with the bat are perfectly capable of causing an upset here. Whilst the smart play would be to wait until the team line-ups are revealed before making any moves, consider backing the Stars to record back-to-back BBL victories.
