THE TEAM NEWS

MELBOURNE STARS

  • Melbourne Stars thought they had kept their hopes of advancing to the knockout stages of the Big Bash League alive with a brilliant win over Brisbane Heat last time out but results elsewhere have ended their participation in the competition.
  • Chasing 150 to win, the Stars produced a stunning performance to reach that target in just 13.5 overs with Joe Clarke the key man in that chase, producing a knock of 62 from just 36 deliveries to continue his excellent tournament and they will now look to bow out on a high.

HOBART HURRICANES

  • Hobart Hurricanes sealed the final spot in the BBL play-offs with a hard-fought win over Melbourne Renegades in their latest contest but they may still be able to finish higher than fifth should other results fall their way.
  • The Hurricanes were able to make it back-to-back wins by edging the Renegades by six runs and while the Hobart outfit performed well with the bat in that contest, there are improvements to make with the ball after they also failed to defend their score of 182 in that matchup.

THE PREDICTION

This could have been a thrilling finale to the round robin stage of the Big Bash League with both Melbourne Stars and Hobart Hurricanes needing the win to advance to the knockout phase of the competition but the Hurricanes’ win over Melbourne Renegades on Tuesday made this game a dead rubber. There could still be something on the line for the Hurricanes with a higher seed potentially available to them should other results fall their way but this could be a tricky task against a Stars outfit with no pressure on and the Melbourne outfit can show their quality by putting on a show in their final game of the competition by earning the victory.
