THE LOWDOWN
SYDNEY THUNDER
- Sydney Thunder lost out to arch rivals Sydney Sixers which made it back-to-back losses for the Thunder as well as three losses from their last four and they will be desperate to get back to winning ways as the ladder begins to become very clustered.
- Alex Hales continued his fine form as he struck 54 but other than Daniel Sams notching an unbeaten 50, the rest of the batting order failed to fire as the Thunder posted 166/6 with the Sixers’ target reduced to 129 from 14 overs because of bad weather.
- Josh Philippe helped to take the game away from the Thunder as he whacked 64 off just 36 and despite it being a close contest for large spells, Dan Christian came in and notched a quick-fire 15 to seal the success for the Sixers.
HOBART HURRICANES
- Hobart Hurricanes have lost their way of late having suffered three consecutive defeats and with the race for the finals becoming very difficult to call due to the numbers of teams still in with a chance, this is a must-win clash for the Hurricanes.
- They sit in seventh position ahead of this contest with Sydney Thunder in second place, but they are separated by just four points which highlights how intense the final few matches of the round robin are likely to be.
- The Hurricanes were blown away by Perth Scorchers last time out as they failed to handle their superb opening pair and that nine-wicket defeat needs to act as a wake-up call for Hobart or they could find themselves cut adrift in seventh.

Sydney Thunder and Hobart Hurricanes have both struggled for form of late and they will be desperate to come out on top of this crucial clash. There are six teams chasing the final four spots in the finals with Sydney Sixers looking well set at the top of the ladder. Just four points separate these two teams who begin this clash in second and seventh respectively but with so many teams still in the hunt, every point becomes crucial. The Hurricanes have lost their last three and were hammered last time out by some superb batting from Perth Scorchers. The Thunder are capable of replicating that effort with the bat and if Alex Hales can find his groove early on, he can help take the game away from the Hurricanes which should help the Thunder to claim a vital success.
