THE LOWDOWN
PERTH SCORCHERS
- Perth Scorchers made a poor start to their BBL|10 campaign as they were outclassed with both bat and ball against Melbourne Renegades and they will have their work cut out to turn that loss around as they take on Melbourne Stars.
- The Scorchers got off to a poor start and never really recovered after they were reduced to 9/2 with Colin Munro failing to get off the mark and despite some fair efforts from lower down the order, they were bowled out for just 130.
- Perth needed to make a strong reply early on but an opening-wicket partnership of 70 by the Renegades set the tone for a straightforward seven-wicket success with over three overs to spare.
MELBOURNE STARS
- Melbourne Stars made it two wins from two to lay down a marker for the rest of the competition and while bigger challenges lie in wait, they will be pleased with how they have started.
- After overcoming Brisbane Heat in their opening contest, the Stars backed it up with a 22-run victory over Sydney Thunder with Marcus Stoinis doing the damage with the bat, notching 61 from just 37 deliveries.
- That set his side onto a total of 169/8 and despite a big second-wicket partnership for the Thunder, the bowling attack were able to work their way through the order when that had pair been dismissed to complete a solid all-round display for the Stars.
THE PREDICTION
Melbourne Stars have done everything asked of them so far after earning two solid victories at the start of BBL|10. They look the real deal with both bat and ball with strike players throughout their line-up and that spells trouble for Perth Scorchers in this matchup. The Scorchers struggled in their opening contest with Melbourne Renegades and they will have to seriously improve on that effort. Even if they do, the Stars look a class above and should be able to outstrip them all the way and this should be a third straight win for the Melbourne outfit.
