PERTH SCORCHERS
- Perth Scorchers got off the mark at the fifth time of asking as they became the final side to win a game in BBL|10 and they will believe they can build on that success over Adelaide Strikers as they take on Melbourne Renegades.
- A solid bowling effort limited the Strikers to 146/9 with only opposition skipper Alex Carey able to do any damage as his 82 was only backed up by two other players reaching double-figures.
- Jason Roy set the tone in the chase with 49 from 32 balls before Josh Inglis (44*) and Mitch Marsh (38*) came in and completed the job with an unbeaten fourth-wicket stand of 67 with the Scorchers now likely to name an unchanged side for this contest.
MELBOURNE RENEGADES
- Melbourne Renegades’ poor run of form continued as they lost for the fifth successive match in BBL|10 as they came unstuck in a rain-affected contest against Sydney Thunder last time out.
- In a game reduced to 17 overs apiece, Shaun Marsh gave his side a great platform as he whacked 87 from just 48 balls to help his side to a strong total of 166/6 but it did not prove to be enough.
- Alex Hales produced a quick-fire 45 to help keep the Thunder ahead of the required run-rate and when the game was halted after 12 overs of their innings, the Sydney outfit were declared the winners as they were seven runs ahead of the DLS par score.
THE PREDICTION
Melbourne Renegades have put in a couple of decent displays in quick succession but they were still unable to halt their losing streak as they went down to Sydney Thunder last time out. They will be desperate to avoid a sixth straight loss as they take on fellow strugglers Perth Scorchers but the hosts will be confident of success having won for the first time in the competition last time out. They proved to be too good for Adelaide Strikers and with Jason Roy starting to find his groove with the bat following his late arrival in the tournament, the Scorchers look like they could mount a challenge for the finals. They have the batting quality to cause problems for anyone and while this game could go either way, the Scorchers are fancied to build on their maiden win to make it back-to-back victories.
