THE LOWDOWN
PERTH SCORCHERS
- Perth Scorchers continued their brilliant turnaround in form as they made it four wins in succession with another eye-catching success thanks to making it back-to-back wins over the Sydney teams by overcoming the Thunder by 17 runs last time out.
- Colin Munro notched a solid half-century but he has been ruled out of this contest after suffering a quad injury against the Thunder which is a blow for the Scorchers. His efforts were backed up by some power hitting from lower down the order as Ashton Turner smashed 31 from just 13 before Jhye Richardson chipped in with a valuable 20 from eight deliveries.
- Those late runs helped the Scorchers to 185/6 and despite a sensational innings from Sam Billings with 83 off 48, Andrew Tye removed him in the penultimate over to all but end the Thunder’s chances with Perth able to see the game out for another excellent win.
HOBART HURRICANES
- Hobart Hurricanes’ spot in the top five is starting to look precarious after they suffered a second straight defeat with Sydney Thunder outclassing them in their latest contest and they will have to make big improvements on that showing.
- The Hurricanes managed to remove some of the Thunder’s key men cheaply as Alex Hales, Callum Ferguson and Sam Billings were only able to post 23 runs between them but they still allowed their opponents to make 167/5.
- It was still a total that could be chased down but despite the top four in the order all getting in, none of them failed to kick on with Peter Handscomb top-scoring with 30 and that proved to be the Hurricanes’ downfall as they fell 39 runs short by only managing 128/8.
THE PREDICTION
Perth Scorchers produced the goods with the bat again as they surpassed the 180 mark for the third game in succession and they look a real threat as their momentum gathers pace in BBL|10. They have now won four games in a row and another success here against Hobart Hurricanes would put them firmly in the mix for a spot in the finals. They are also performing with the ball having bowled out their last three opponents and their all-round ability will pose problems for the Hurricanes in this one. The away side have lost back-to-back matches and they were seriously underwhelming with the bat in their defeat to Sydney Thunder last time out. They are capable of much more than they showed in that game but with the Scorchers performing so consistently of late and to such a high standard too, it is the home side that can extend their winning streak to five matches.
