THE LOWDOWN

MELBOURNE RENEGADES

  • In what has been a frustrating campaign for the Melbourne Renegades, they did at least earn the bragging rights from their second Melbourne derby with the Stars as they collected a shock victory.
  • They were defeated by six wickets in their last game against the Stars and looked set for another loss as they chased 159 for a rare success but some superb batting from their youngsters salvaged the contest.
  • Shaun Marsh and Aaron Finch fell early on to leave the Renegades at 15/2 but 20-year-old Mackenzie Harvey proved to be the hero as he produced a sensational knock of 47* from just 21 deliveries to turn the game on its head and lead his side to just their third win of BBL|10.

BRISBANE HEAT

  • Brisbane Heat face an uphill task to advance to the finals of BBL|10 after suffering a second consecutive loss and with just one win from their last four, their dip in form has come at exactly the wrong time.
  • They will begin their penultimate contest in seventh spot and with plenty of work to do to find a way into the top five after a big loss to Adelaide Strikers last time out with their strong batting line-up failing to fire.
  • An unbelievable Alex Carey hundred helped to set a big total for the Heat to chase and scoreboard pressure began to tell as the required run rate continued to creep up with Brisbane ultimately losing all of their wickets for just 115 runs.

THE PREDICTION

A defeat here for Brisbane Heat will all but end their hopes of making the top five so they simply have to put their poor form behind them as they take on bottom side Melbourne Renegades. It will not be an easy task for the Heat having struggled in their last two matches with both ending in heavy losses. They have been bowled out for 115 runs in those two games and that is the key area for improvement here, although they need to produce more with the ball too. The Renegades earned just their third win of the tournament as they overcame their Melbourne rivals last time out and it was evident how much that win over the Stars meant to them. They have no pressure on them now and will look to enjoy themselves in their final two matches which could lead to some problems for the Heat, who are very much under pressure. However, a few tweaks to the Brisbane order could help them with the bat and if the likes of Marnus Labuschagne and Chris Lynn can get themselves set, the Heat can earn a vital victory to keep their top five hopes alive.
