THE LOWDOWN
MELBOURNE RENEGADES
- After putting in solid displays in defeat to Sydney Sixers and Sydney Thunder in which they pushed both teams all the way, Melbourne Renegades suffered another collapse in their latest outing which has happened too frequently in BBL|10.
- They were poor with the ball as they allowed Perth Scorchers to post 185 with the loss of just three wickets and with scoreboard pressure already in mind, the loss of early wickets set the tone for a woeful batting effort.
- Jack Prestwidge scored 33 of the Renegades’ 89 while only Shaun Marsh joined him in double-figures as the Melbourne side lost wickets at an alarming rate with that defeat seeing them remain at the foot of the ladder with just one win from seven.
ADELAIDE STRIKERS
- Adelaide Strikers suffered their second loss in succession as they were outplayed by Sydney Sixers but they will be frustrated with their batting efforts having not managed to put enough runs on the board.
- Having lost their two openers with just seven runs scored, the Strikers responded well with Alex Carey, Jonathan Wells and Jake Weatherald all passing the 30 mark as Adelaide were able to post 150/4.
- However, their scoring rate didn’t appear to be good enough and when the Sixers made a rapid start to the chase, that proved to be the case as their opponents were able to reach their target with 12 balls to spare.
THE PREDICTION
Melbourne Renegades can ill-afford to lose many more games if they want to remain in the hunt for a spot in the finals having won just one of their matches in the first half of the tournament. They suffered yet another batting collapse as they were beaten by 96 runs against Perth Scorchers last time out. They come up against an inconsistent Adelaide Strikers outfit in this game but the Renegades face an uphill task to overcome another poor display. The Strikers have been competitive in nearly every game and if their top order can find some early runs, they should be able to get back to winning ways here.
