THE LOWDOWN
HOBART HURRICANES
- Hobart Hurricanes were unable to make it three wins from three at the start of the BBL|10 campaign as they suffered their first loss of the competition against Adelaide Strikers last time out.
- A lot has been made of the power that the Hurricanes boast in their batting line-up in what is clearly their strongest asset but when they fail, as was the case against the Strikers, they are likely to come unstuck.
- Ben McDermott made a welcome return as he notched 46 but his side were reduced to just 146 and despite the Hurricanes taking to early wickets to leave the Strikers at 9/2, they could not build on that start as they succumbed to a five-wicket loss.
MELBOURNE RENEGADES
- After such an impressive victory over Perth Scorchers in their opening game, Melbourne Renegades would have fancied their chances against reigning champions Sydney Sixers but they produced a dreadful display as they were on the end of a humiliating loss.
- The Renegades’ bowling attack failed to fire as they allowed the Sixers to put up a huge score of 205/4 but in what was always likely to be an extremely tough chase, the Melbourne outfit collapsed in dramatic fashion.
- Only four players made double-figures but the seven that didn’t only managed to score eight runs between them as they were skittled for a paltry 60 which resulted in a mammoth 145-run loss and they have some serious work to do to put that annihilation behind them.
THE PREDICTION
Melbourne Renegades were on the end of a hammering against Sydney Sixers and they will have to make some huge improvements to put that loss to bed. They take on Hobart Hurricanes hoping for a swift response but their opponents will also be looking to respond to a defeat as they went down to Adelaide Strikers. The Hurricanes’ weaknesses were highlighted in that game and they know that they need to be better with the bat to give themselves a greater opportunity to win. They will hope to capitalise on the Renegades’ poor efforts with the ball last time out by trying to get into them early as they attempt to place them under further pressure and if the top order can fire – be it when posting a total or chasing – it is Hobart that should be able to come out on top.
