THE LOWDOWN

HOBART HURRICANES

  • Hobart Hurricanes made it two wins from two to begin their BBL|10 campaign as another strong batting display was supported by the bowling unit as they proved too good for Adelaide Strikers in an 11-run victory.
  • The Hurricanes have now surpassed 170 runs in both of their opening matches as they posted 174/5 in their latest outing with D’Arcy Short most notably whacking 72 off just 48 deliveries.
  • James Faulkner was the standout with the ball as he ended with figures of 3-21 which including taking two of the top three in the order as the Strikers were restricted to 163/9 and to boost their efforts to earn for a third straight win, Ben McDermott is available for selection having completed his spell with Australia A.

ADELAIDE STRIKERS

  • Adelaide Strikers succumbed to defeat against Hobart Hurricanes in their opening match of the new edition of the Big Bash League but the contest was not as close as the result suggested with a wagging tail keeping them in with a shout at an unlikely win.
  • Chasing a target of 175 for the win, the Strikers were in real trouble as they were reduced to 102/9 but they somehow stuck around with the tenth-wicket partnership notching an unbeaten 61 runs, the highest in BBL history.
  • Daniel Worrall finished on 62* and he was ably supported by Danny Briggs’ 35* but they need more from the top order and they will hope the inclusion of Alex Carey can aid their cause in this clash.

THE PREDICTION

Hobart Hurricanes were successful in their clash with Adelaide Strikers over the weekend and they will hope for the same outcome as they meet again for the second time in quick succession. The Hurricanes are now two from two and look a solid outfit with bat and ball, although they have improvements to make with the latter after failing to wrap the game up earlier as they allowed the Strikers to stick in the contest with a record-breaking tenth-wicket stand. Adelaide have plenty to do if they are to overturn the first result and while Alex Carey is a welcome addition to the batting line-up as well as bringing his leadership skills into the side, the Hurricanes will take some beating and Hobart should be able to continue their perfect start.
