THE LOWDOWN

BRISBANE HEAT

  • Brisbane Heat looked set for a second win in succession against Hobart Hurricanes but they lost out in the most dramatic fashion possible as they were beaten by just a single run in a pulsating clash.
  • Mujeeb Ur Rahman was a magician with the ball as he produced a wonderful spell of bowling to end with 5-14, the best figures in BBL|10 so far as he helped to bowl out the Hurricanes for 150.
  • James Bazley’s 49* looked to be guiding the Heat to back-to-back wins but with the final ball of the match, needing two to win and one to force a Super Over, Mark Steketee was run out by a superb piece of fielding from Colin Ingram to condemn Brisbane to defeat.

SYDNEY SIXERS

  • Sydney Sixers made hard work of it but they did just enough to defeat Melbourne Renegades and secure their fourth win in succession but they had Jason Holder to thank after his heroics in the final over earned them the victory.
  • Dan Christian was the pick of the bowlers for the Sixers as he ended with figures of 2-19 from his three overs with the Sydney outfit leaving themselves needing 169 to win but the chase was far from straightforward.
  • Josh Philippe struck 48 to get his side off to a good start but the middle order failed to fire and they looked set for defeat as they required 16 from the final five balls of the match but Holder struck 2-4-4-6 to sign off from his stint in the Big Bash League in style by handing his side the win with a ball to spare.

THE PREDICTION

Sydney Sixers were able to make it four wins in a row as they overcame a scare against Melbourne Renegades but they will be full of confidence after securing another unlikely final over victory. They know they need to improve but they are more than capable of producing better performances and that can begin in this clash with Brisbane Heat. The hosts were narrowly beaten by Hobart Hurricanes last time out and they will have to quickly put that disappointment behind them against the reigning champions who could inflict more woe on them. With the Heat winning just one of their five matches and the Sixers reversing that record with four wins from five, it is the Sydney side that should be able to earn another success here.
