THE LOWDOWN

BRISBANE HEAT

  • After a slow start to BBL|10, Brisbane Heat have caught the eye of late with a notable improvement in their performances and they have now won three of their last four including back-to-back wins over the Sydney teams.
  • Following their shock win over Sydney Sixers, the Heat backed that up with another impressive success against Sydney Thunder as they chased down 175 thanks to a welcome return to form for Joe Burns.
  • He has come in for plenty of criticism of late for his efforts with Australia but he produced a match-winning 52 and along with Joe Denly (50), the Heat were able to surpass their target with five balls to spare to claim a five-wicket victory.

MELBOURNE STARS

  • Melbourne Stars ended their losing run at three matches thanks to earning revenge over Hobart Hurricanes in their latest contest but they still have improvements to make if they want to back that up.
  • Andre Fletcher’s poor form continued and he is yet to surpass 18 runs with the bat from his seven matches in the competition so far but Marcus Stoinis’ superb 97* from 55 balls helped the Stars to 183/6.
  • Ben McDermott put up a great fight in reply but the Stars did enough to restrict the scoring rate of their opponents and they were able to hang on to claim a ten-run victory in what could prove to be a pivotal victory for the Melbourne outfit.

THE PREDICTION

Brisbane Heat have produced some eye-catching results of late and they will hope to continue their good run of form as they take on Melbourne Stars. Both teams have won three of their seven matches in the competition so far but the Heat are shaping as a real challenger for the finals and with Chris Lynn returning sooner than expected from his hamstring injury in their most recent victory over Sydney Thunder, their batting line-up looks strong. He will play a key role in this clash with the dangerous Stars outfit and while his side are capable of extending their impressive run, the Stars should have enough in their ranks with Marcus Stoinis able to build on his sensational knock last time out to guide his side to back-to-back wins.
