THE LOWDOWN
BRISBANE HEAT
- Brisbane Heat’s overall performance was once again not good enough as their losing streak to begin BBL|10 continued, although skipper Jimmy Peirson gave his side something to work on after he almost produced a wonderful turnaround against Adelaide Strikers.
- Chasing 151 for victory, the Heat were in a terrible position at 68/8 but Peirson stood firm and was aided by Mujeeb Ur Rahman who chipped in with a valuable 18 until he fell to leave the score at 128/9.
- Peirson continued to entertain and he finished unbeaten on 69 from 36 balls but it was not enough as the Heat lost out by two runs. In their quest to earn their maiden success, they are boosted by the inclusion of English all-rounder Lewis Gregory who is available after serving his quarantine period.
HOBART HURRICANES
- Hobart Hurricanes responded well to their first defeat of the tournament as they defeated Melbourne Renegades last time out to make it three wins from four in what has been a very strong start to proceedings.
- After making a superb start with the ball to leave the Renegades at 4/2, the Hurricanes let their opponents off the hook as they ended up posting 157/5 but it did not deter Hobart who chased their target down comfortably with 14 balls remaining.
- Ben McDermott was the match-winner with a fantastic 89* from 55 and he will be keen to build on his strong start to the competition in this one with the world’s best T20 batsman, Dawid Malan, likely to line up alongside him after he was selected in the squad having completed his mandatory quarantine spell.
THE PREDICTION
These two teams have started BBL|10 in very different fashion and things could be about to get worse for the winless Brisbane Heat. They have lost all three of their matches so far and despite almost pulling off a brilliant recovery last time out, they just fell short. Hobart Hurricanes on the other hand have won three from four and have been impressive in doing so. They are now able to add a world-class talent to their line-up in Dawid Malan which wil boost the Hurricanes’ already strong-looking batting options. They look very imposing with the bat and with the Heat’s bowlers struggling so far, this should be another victory for the Hurricanes.
