THE LOWDOWN
BRISBANE HEAT
- After they were on the end of a heavy loss in their opening match of BBL|10 against Melbourne Stars, Brisbane Heat blew a great position in their second contest as they went down to Sydney Thunder.
- The Heat did well with the bat as they posted 178/6 with skipper Chris Lynn leading the way with a score of 69 from 44 deliveries and despite reducing the Thunder to 1/2 and 22/3, Brisbane somehow failed to capitalise.
- Their lack of quality as well as depth with the ball was highlighted as Daniel Sams whacked a match-winning 65* off just 25 deliveries to turn the game on its head and the Heat will need a big response to that lacklustre effort as they bid to earn their first win of the competition.
ADELAIDE STRIKERS
- Adelaide Strikers failed to build on their win over Hobart Hurricanes as they fell to Sydney Sixers last time out but they will feel they were architects of their own downfall in the way they lost that contest.
- The Strikers had the Sixers at 116/4 with just over five overs of their innings remaining but their failure to remove Dan Christian early on proved pivotal as he produced a stunning spell with the bat, notching 50 from just 16 balls.
- That knock helped the Sixers to a total of 177/5 and it altered the momentum of the game with the Strikers unable to get anywhere near their target, ending on 139/7 which saw them lose by 38 runs while their bid to bounce back here will be hindered by the loss of Alex Carey.
THE PREDICTION
Brisbane Heat showed signs of what they can do in their second outing of this edition of the Big Bash League but their inability to produce a complete performance could well be their downfall in this competition. They look light in the bowling department and that showed as they allowed Sydney Thunder to win from a position they had no real right to. They now take on Adelaide Strikers, another side that have been punished for not performing well enough for the full 40 overs. The saving grace for the Strikers in their previous outing is that they were at least facing the defending champions and if they can just find that bit of extra consistency, they should be able to prevail in this one to leave the Heat winless although they must overcome the loss of stand-in skipper Alex Carey who is unavailable along with Harry Conway because of border restrictions.
