THE LOWDOWN
ADELAIDE STRIKERS
- Adelaide Strikers were unable to make it three straight wins in BBL|10 as they succumbed to defeat against Perth Scorchers last time out meaning they have now three and lost three of their six games to date.
- A poor batting effort was rescued by skipper Alex Carey who whacked 82 in a superb performance but he received next to no support from the rest of his side with only two others reaching double-figures.
- Having posted 146/9, it never felt as though that would be enough against a strong Perth batting line-up and that proved to be the case as they surpassed their target with seven wickets and 14 balls in hand.
SYDNEY SIXERS
- Sydney Sixers’ four-match winning run surprisingly came to a halt as they were defeated by Brisbane Heat in an underwhelming display and they will be eager to right the wrongs of that performance here.
- The Sixers made a quick start with the bat but failed to build on it as only Josh Philippe and Jordan Silk made meaningful totals with 48 and 43 respectively, although a late cameo from Ben Dwarshuis (24*) helped the Sixers to 165/8.
- They would have fancied their chances of defending that total but they struggled to restrict their opponents and the Heat were able to earn the win thanks to an unbeaten seventh-wicket stand of 50.
THE PREDICTION
Sydney Sixers suffered a shock loss to Brisbane Heat on Saturday and the defending champions will be eager to respond to that at the first attempt. They looked on course for a fifth straight win after making a solid start with the bat against Brisbane Heat but they fell short of posting a big enough total to take the game away from their opponents. They now face an Adelaide Strikers side that have suffered from inconsistency in their campaign so far and that could be their downfall here. The Strikers need their top order to deliver and cannot rely on Alex Carey to carry the load as he has done in several matches so far but with the Sixers likely to pose problems with the ball as well as boasting the stronger batting line-up, it is the Sydney outfit that should prevail here.
