THE LOWDOWN
ADELAIDE STRIKERS
- Adelaide Strikers were able to avoid a third straight loss in BBL|10 as they put in a strong all-round display to comfortably see off Melbourne Renegades and they will be confident of a repeat outcome as they take on the same side for the second time in quick succession.
- The Strikers looked in a bit of trouble when Alex Carey fell to leave the score at 72/4 but a superb partnership of 96 between Ryan Gibson (43*) and Jake Weatherald (51) helped Adelaide post 171/5.
- Harry Conway removed Aaron Finch with the first ball of the reply to get the Strikers off to a great start and despite a bit of a rally from the Renegades, Wes Agar and Peter Siddle took three wickets apiece to remove the Melbourne side for just 111.
MELBOURNE RENEGADES
- Melbourne Renegades are now in the midst of a seven-match losing streak after yet another batting collapse saw them go down to Adelaide Strikers and with their apparent inability to deal with pressure, they could be in for further punishment here.
- The Renegades let the Strikers off the hook as they allowed their opponents to score 99 runs off their final nine overs despite having them in a bit of trouble with four wickets down and that scoreboard pressure proved to be decisive.
- Making it to 67/1, the Renegades looked in a strong position to make a good first of their chase but their remaining nine wickets fell for just 44 runs in what has been an all-too-common occurrence in this tournament so far.
THE PREDICTION
Melbourne Renegades will need a minor miracle to turn their form around and they already look like being eliminated from the tournament despite playing just eight games so far. Having won their opening contest, they have since gone on to lose their next seven and it is difficult to see where they will end that losing streak. They collapsed with the bat once again as they went down to Adelaide Strikers by 60 runs and now facing the same side, they have a big task to overturn that result. At the time of writing, Wes Agar has taken more wickets than any other player in BBL|10 with 14 and with Peter Siddle and Rashid Khan ably supporting him with 13 and 12 respectively, that trio look set to give the Renegades nightmares once more. One of the very few bright spots of the campaign for the Renegades has been the form of Shaun Marsh but he missed out last time out with his wife due to give birth shortly and with his absence set to continue, the Melbourne outfit are set to be short of quality once again with Adelaide able to come away with another win.
