THE LOWDOWN
ADELAIDE STRIKERS
- Adelaide Strikers were defeated in the finals in BBL|09 and they will hope to build on that showing but their squad looks short on genuine top-drawer talent and also lacks depth which could make this campaign a struggle.
- Matt Renshaw is a nice addition at the top of the order while Dan Worrall will boost the bowling options having arrived from Melbourne Stars and they will complement the likes of Phil Salt and Rashid Khan nicely.
- Despite those additions, the loss of Billy Stanlake is significant and the experienced Cameron White retired at the end of the last campaign so head coach Jason Gillespie will have his work cut out.
HOBART HURRICANES
- Hobart Hurricanes made an impressive start to their BBL|10 campaign as they overturned reigning champions Sydney Sixers in their opening contest and they will be eager to make it back-to-back wins to really lay down a marker for the tournament.
- Despite making an awful start to proceedings with opening pair Will Jacks and D’Arcy Short both skittled for ducks, the Hurricanes recovered to notch 178/8 and a strong all-round bowling effort ensured they sealed a 16-run victory.
- Debutant Tim David did most of the damage with the bat as he struck 58 runs off just 33 balls which turned the match in his new side’s favour and he will have a key role to play along with Colin Ingram who also made a big impression on debut with 55 runs.
THE PREDICTION
Hobart Hurricanes got off the mark in fine fashion as they defeated Sydney Sixers in their opening match of BBL|10. They overcame a terrible start by highlighting their quality throughout their batting line-up and that success will give them great confidence ahead of this clash with Adelaide Strikers. In what is their first contest, the Strikers come into this tournament with few giving them much hope of lifting the trophy with their squad looking short in quality and depth. They will hope to prove the doubters wrong by getting off to a good start but the Hurricanes have already shown their credentials and they are favoured to make it back-to-back wins.
