THE PREDICTION
Melbourne Stars topped the ladder during the round robin stage of WBBL|06 but they will be concerned that they failed to win either of their final two matches. They posted a huge total against Sydney Sixers as they notched 178/4 from their 19 overs – their highest total of the tournament so far – but they were unable to defend it with the Sixers reaching their D/L target with two balls to spare. That bowling performance left a lot to be desired as they failed to build on a brilliant effort with the bat and that is not ideal preparation when coming up against two of the best batters in the competition. Perth Scorchers edged into the finals despite winning just one of their final four matches as Adelaide Strikers just got the better of them in their final game. Beth Mooney and Sophie Devine continued their remarkable form as they combined for a first-wicket stand of 118 but it was not enough with their teammates failing to get the job done. Mooney and Devine sit in the top three of highest run scorers' in this year’s tournament, sandwiching the Stars’ Meg Lanning so there are clearly some superb players on show with the bat but this contest could come down to who performs with the ball. The Stars boast the joint-leading wicket taker in Nat Sciver with 18 and if she can remove Mooney or Devine without them causing too much damage, it is the Melbourne outfit that can make it three straight wins against Perth and advance to the final.
