Brisbane Heat will go in search of a third consecutive Women’s Big Bash League final as they take on Sydney Thunder in their semi-final clash. The back-to-back champions hit form at just the right time in this year’s competition as they won their final seven round robin matches to finish second on the ladder, just a solitary point behind leaders Melbourne Stars. They ended their campaign with a big win over Melbourne Renegades as they ripped through their opponents with the ball, bowling them out for just 76 runs. Following the departure of Beth Mooney, the Heat have handled her loss well and they have shared the burden as a team, although Amelia Kerr and Jess Jonassen have produced some good figures with the ball having taken 16 wickets apiece. The Thunder on the other hand will be hoping to appear in their first final since lifting the maiden WBBL title back in 2016. They won three of their last four matches to secure their spot in the finals with a big win over Hobart Hurricanes completing the job last time out. Only three players have scored more runs than Heather Knight in this competition so far and she shapes as being the key danger to the Heat’s chances of advancing but the Brisbane outfit are a champion side and they will not relinquish their title without a fight. The defending champions come into this as favourites and they can justify that tag by setting up a mouthwatering clash with the Stars for the WBBL|06 crown.
