Camilo Ugo Carabelli has always struggled on grass and this year was no exception, as he failed to register a victory in all three tournaments he competed in on the surface. The Argentine now returns to his favoured clay in Bastad this week. He had a very strong South American swing on the surface in the winter, as he won the Rosario Challenger and then made the semi-finals in Rio and Santiago. However, his recent form is worrying as is currently on a five match losing streak.
Cristian Garin enjoyed an encouraging run at Wimbledon as he made the second-round despite only entering the main draw as a lucky loser. Prior to that major, he had reached the semis in Bratislava and Poznan on clay, while he also won an event in Oeiras last month on the surface. This was his second tournament win on clay of the year after a victory in Mauthausen at the beginning of May.
Both of these guys are very effective operators on their most favoured surface of all and will fancy their chances. We predict that Ugo Carabelli will snap his losing run and get back to winning ways with a victory over Garin.
