Looking to cement himself as one of the greatest boxers to ever step foot inside the ring, Canelo Alvarez (57-1-2) continues to get better every time he steps inside the ring. Last time out, Canelo defeated Caleb Plant via TKO in the 11th round. Now, Alvarez is stepping up a weight class to fight Dmitry Bivol. This will be Canelo’s first fight at light-heavyweight since his victory over Sergey Kovalev back in 2019.
As for Dmitry Bivol (19-0), the Russian native will be looking to successfully defend his WBA light-heavyweight title. In his last outing, Bivol defeated Umar Salamov via unanimous decision back in December of 2021. With many ruling Bivol out, Dmitry will be hoping to shock the world when he faces a true great of boxing.

Heading into this weekend’s jaw-dropping main event, Bivol can pose some serious problems for Alvarez. Bivol is a sharp boxer and will need to use his significant height and reach to his advantage. To beat Canelo, you have to be big enough to be the aggressor and back Alvarez against the ropes and attempt to keep him off-balanced. Bivol’s precise movement, efficient jab and sharp right hand could cause the Mexican some real issues early on in the fight. However, as the fight goes on, the more confident Alvarez will get. We suspect that it will be a tactical chess match early on, with both fighters trying to get a feel of each other. Canelo will be hoping that his quick footwork and smart counter striking will pay dividends. In the end, we believe that Canelo will look to tire Bivol out and start working the body in the middle of the fight and look for a late finish or a comfortable decision victory.
